Weekend in Gtown

Last weekend Dylan and I travelled to Gastonia to visit family, and be with my mom on her birthday.  It has been awhile since we have made the trip and it was so good to spend time with family.  My niece, Addie was born at the end of December and I had only gotten to see her one other time.

My parents (aka Nana and Pops) noticed a lot of different things about Dylan.  He is really starting to look and act like a little boy.  He is slowly growing out of babyhood.  He claps his hands constantly.  It's like he is congratulating himself on everything he does.  He also babbles all the time.  And usually it gets loud whenever we walk in or out of a place, full of people.  I can just see inside his little head, "look at me!  I'm here", or "see you later!".  He much prefers to play now, than being held.  If he sees anything that gets his attention, he wants in the floor to check it out.  He slaps and throws everything (we are trying to get him to stop this, well the slapping).  His favorite thing to slap...his daddy's face.  Blocks are his favorite toy.  He throws them like missiles and then chases after them.  He recognizes and laughs at his daddy when we Skype with him when he is out of town.  Basically, he's become a little man... my main man.  And he is so much fun!!

And all of this new stuff has happened since Christmas.  It is amazing how much growing they do in the first year.  I look at Addie and can just see all the fun Seth and Paula are going to have with her.

I meant to take tons of pictures last weekend.  We visited my grandmother in the nursing home and it was fun to watch her and Dylan.  I also wanted pictures with Dylan and Addie, but then we figured out that Dylan didn't like Mama holding another baby.  I couldn't hold her without him fussing and trying to also crawl in my lap.  So I got a couple of pictures of a very special moment with Mom (Nana) and Dylan.  Check it out!

Seriously, does it get any cuter than this??

Circus, Circus!

We took Dylan to see the circus last weekend with our friends, the Eads family.  I was a little nervous about taking a 10 month old to this, but Scott was really excited so I agreed to go.  After about 5 minutes of tears, Dylan LOVED it!  He sat in my lap for 2 hours and just stared at the lights.  Occasionally, he would clap with the rest of the audience.  We actually couldn't even get his attention off the stage, as you can see below.  I believe Scott and Steph had the most out of all of us (even more than Dylan and Lily!).  Below are some pictures that Steph took of the day.  What a great time we had!

Battle of the Dog Food

There have been many battles fought in my house in the past year over dog food.  It is about to accelerate into a war.  On one side, you have Scott, AKA "Dirt Cheap Daddy" and on the other side there is Brooke, AKA "Mighty Mama".

Rocco has food allergies and a sensitive stomach.  He should be eating an all natural food, which he doesn't like and it is REALLY expensive, so DCD won't buy it for him.  I think, if that is all he has, he'll get used to it, and eat it and be much healthier.

So we somewhat compromised...leaning heavily in DCD's favor.  He buys the Pro-Plan Shredded blend...which is a good brand, but Rocco can clear a room with this food, so still not good for him.

THEN, DCD decided to come home with Purina One...and I was up with poor Rocco all night with an upset tummy, while Dirt Cheap Daddy slept.

NO MORE!!!!  Mighty Mama is now in charge of the dog food.  My guys are going to be eating the good stuff!!

If anyone wants some Purina One, I am giving it away.

Pictures over the last week...

Dylan started crawling this week!  We have been watching for this for a couple months and it finally happened.  Life is certainly different now that he is mobile.  I finally got a video uploaded and some pictures over the last week.  Enjoy!

Angry Bird=Mommy Breakdown

That's right, Angry Bird, an addictive game downloaded on our Droids, caused this Mommy's very first breakdown...

I often call Scott in the morning when he takes Dylan to daycare, just to check in.  This morning I called him at 7:30 and it went straight to voicemail, very odd, as this NEVER happens.  But whatever, I wasn't really concerned at this point.  I tried calling up to 8:30 and still, it went to voicemail.  So then, I was starting to get apprehensive, so I called his work cell a couple times....no answer.

At this point, I called daycare, and spoke to Dylan's teacher.  I told her I was having trouble getting a hold of Scott and wanted to make sure Dylan got there okay.  There was a long pause, and she said, "Brooke, Dylan never showed up."

I went from concerned to PANIC in about 2 seconds.  It just wasn't right, Scott ALWAYS answers his phone or calls me right back.  And by this point, Dylan should have been at daycare for an hour and a half.   In my heart, I believed something had happened to my husband and baby, and I can honestly say, I have never been that terrified.

I got a hold of  Jon, my brother in law, and sent him to my house.  In the meantime, I tried Scott's work phone ONE MORE TIME, and he finally picked it up.

Me:  Are you okay?  Is Dylan okay?

Scott:  Yes, we are fine.  I was just about to take him to daycare.

So what happened...Scott played Angry Bird so long his phone died, and he didn't know it was dead.  Then, he forgot to tell me that he was working from home today.  he also forgot to call daycare to let them know he would be bringing Dylan in late.  So no one (me) knew where they were or what had happened to them.

I want to say THANK GOODNESS, for Penny, who shall now be known as my "Work Mama" who sat with me, and was so concerned, was going to drive me home.  And THANK GOODNESS, for Kate and Stephnie, that once I had calmed down, and was very embarrassed, assured me that they would have wondered about me, if I hadn't reacted the way I did.  I work with an awesome group of gals, and I have a lot of love in my heart for every one of them.

I am feeling very thankful this evening, for my husband and child.  I also feel very thankful that I have a brother in law who would drop everything at the drop of a hat for his hysterical sis in law.  I am blessed with such a special family.

So I am going to enjoy my weekend with my awesome family...Grandma and Paw Paw are coming to visit.

And the moral of the story, have a charger handy when you play Angry Bird!!!!!!!!!!!
